Strengthening Families Initiative

The Strengthening Families Initiative is spearheaded by the Center for the Study of Social Policy (CSSP) in Washington D.C. and is active in more than 30 states. Strengthening Families is all based on advancing a protective and promotive factors framework in all services for children and families.

The Strengthening Families Protective Factors are:

 Parenting Is Part Learned Knowledge Of Parenting and Child Development 

 Concrete Support Concrete Support In Times Of Need

 Social Emotional Competence  Social and Emotional Competence of Children

Be Strong Families assists agencies and organizations with implementing Strengthening Families, bringing a unique expertise as the staff team responsible for the nationally recognized Strengthening Families Illinois Initiative.  

Our Technical Assistance helps agencies and programs bring the protective factor framework directly to families and communities in several key areas, including:

  • Building parent / provider partnerships that result in increased parent engagement and parents building protective factors in their own families. 
  • Working with child-welfare involved families in a strengths-based way
  • Using the Strengthening Families™ Protective Factor Framework as a community violence prevention strategy.
