Interested in becoming a tight, loving, fabulously strong family?  Raising a family is hard work! As parents, we are constantly juggling responsibilities while trying to guard against the negative forces that threaten to influence and upset our delicate balance. “The most basic responsibility of a parent is to keep our children safe, not only from external threats, but to keep them safe from us on our worst day!”  The Protective Factors can assist you—not only as a framework, guidelines, and information that live in your head—but in day to day life.   .

This training for parents and providers introduces participants to ACES (Adverse Childhood Experiences Study) and the long term negative effects of trauma, offering participants an opportunity for a mini-self-assessment of trauma they may have experienced in their own childhood and then offering the Strengthening Families ™ Protective Factors as a way, that they, in their own families, with or without professional assistance, can build on innate resiliency to keep childhood trauma from having a negative impact on their families in the future. Raising families is hard work and parents are constantly juggling responsibilities while trying to guard against the negative forces that threaten to influence and upset what can sometimes be a delicate balance. “The most basic responsibility of parents is to keep our children safe, not only for external threats but to keep them safe from us on our worst day.” During the Living the Protective Factors Training, participants have the opportunity to “test drive” the 5 research based Protective Factors. The training offers practical insight and strategies on how to strengthen the protective factors and also assists participants in identifying obstacles that can lead to tearing them down. The Living the Protective Factors Training is an interactive journey that leads to parents rediscovering their inner strength and the tools we all have to maintain healthy, strong families. Participants leave the training with a sense of encouragement, and hope because they know and understand that “Risk Factors are not predictive factors due to the presence of Protective Factors”-Dr. Carl Bell. They also leave understanding areas that they might need assistance in addressing in order to be the parents they want to be and to not unwittingly cause their children to have adverse childhood experiences.

For providers, we can follow-up with a half-day training that will help you apply this knowledge in your work with families and promoting meaningful parent engagement.

Living the Protective Factors is an interactive journey of discovering the inner strength and tools that we all possess to maintain healthy, strong families.
